One of the best known residents along the Hawkesbury River, Mr. Thomas James Herps, passed away at Lower Portland on Monday night, at the ripe age of 73 years.
Deceased had only returned from a holiday on the previous Friday, and his death was somewhat sudden and quite unexpected. The late Mr. Herps was born at Lower Portland, where he lived all his life. He was married at Nowra to Miss Jane Chaseling, who survives him. Their family are well-known and highly respected throughout the Hawkesbury district, and comprise the following:-Minnie Agnes at home, Mary (Mrs. J. Leet, Lower Portland), Lilly (Mrs. Marshall, Strathfield), Dorothy Mrs. Aird, Chatswood), Thomas Lisle (Lower Portland), Arthur (Lower Portland), and Clara (Mrs. Gambrill, Lower Portland). Profound sympathy is expressed for the widow and family. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, the remains being laid to rest in the West Portland cemetery. Rev. W.T.
