Death of Father6 March 1915 Burilda Private Hospital, Summer Hill, NSW;
It is with very great regret that we have to chronicle the death of Mr Edward Herbert, of Fairfield, Eugowra, which sad event took place on Saturday, the 6th ult., at Burilda Private Hospital, Summer Hill. The deceased gentleman attained the age of 78 years, and was perhaps one of the oldest settlers in the district, having settled on the Lachlan 42 years ago. Until recent years, Mr Herbert had devoted himself extensively to the raising of fat cattle, the quality of which were known all over the country, Fairfield being one of the best fattening properties on the river. The remains were brought to Forbes by Monday morning's mail train, and were taken on to Fairfield, the funeral leaving there at about 1 o'clock, and was very largely attended. Over 40 vehicles, besides a number on horseback, followed to the Eugowra cemetery, where the last sad rites were performed by the Rev. A. J. Gardner of Forbes. The late Mr Herbert was a keen business man, and was highly respected in the district. Much sympathy is felt for his widow and family, of which there are 14, ten sons and four daughters, all of whom are grown up.;Principal=Edward Herbert3

OBITUARY
Cr. R. H. Herbert
There passed away at the Scottish Hospital in Sydney on Friday, October 30, a well-known and highly-respected district farmer and grazier, in the person of Mr. Robert Hamilton Herbert, of "Glenwood," Eugowra, at the age of 70 years.
The eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Herbert, of "Fairfield," Eugowra, he married Miss May Fisher, of Guyong, near Orange, in 1907, and settled at "Glenwood," afterwards acquiring the adjoining property of Mr. James Goodacre, where he has resided ever since.
Deceased is survived by his wife and family of one son (Edward) and two daughters, Gladys and Constance (Mrs. D. G. Wythes). Brothers are Arthur (Baradine), David and Francis (Eugowra), Lachlan (Port Macquarie) and Roland (deceased), while the following are step-brothers and sisters; Peter, James, William, Edward and George (deceased), Thomas (Leeton), Ann and Harriet (deceased), Matilda (Mrs. McMillan, Gosford), Lucy (Mrs. Grant, Neutral Bay).
BOREE SHIRE COUNCILLOR
The late Mr. Herbert entered Local Government as a member of the Boree Shire Council in 1919, a position he held till the time of his passing, with the exception of the period from 1942-50, and was president for several terms. His work for the town of Eugowra and district is marked by many of the present-day amenities, for it was largely due to his foresight and public-mindedness that the town possesses electric light, a concrete bridge over the Mandagery Creek, and the more recent installation of a water supply from the Lachlan River by the Central Tablelands County Council, of which body he was one of the two Boree Shire representatives. He was also a member of the Molong P.P. Board for nine years.
Deceased was also interested in many other public organisations, being the foundation President of the Anzac Memorial Committee, and was largely instrumental in having the Anzac Memorial erected after World War I and, together with the late Mr. Neil McMillan, the Memorial Gates at the local hospital. In earlier years he was an active member of the Eugowra Rifle Club. The R.S.S. and A.I.L.A. and Citizens' Bowling Club was another of his numerous interests, of which he was an active member and patron for several years.
When the local branch of the Farmers & Settlers' Association was re-formed he became President, a position he retained until his passing, rarely ever missing a meeting. A foundation member of Lodge Evans, he worked actively in its interests, being honored in 1950 by the United Grand Lodge of N.S.W. in having the rank of P.D.G.I.W. conferred upon him.
Among other offices he was appointed District Coroner in 1947 and was also a life member of the Eugowra P., A. & H. Association.
Following a service at St. Matthews' Church the cortege moved for interment in the Church of England portion of the local cemetery, the Rev. C. Miller officiating.
The large and representative gathering of brethren at the Lodge of Sorrow and general public at the church, and afterwards at the cemetery fully testified to the high esteem and respect in which the late Mr. Herbert was held by all sections of the community and surrounding districts.
Representatives of the Masonic brethren and past and present members of Local Government formed a guard-of-honor at the graveside.
Mr. A. G. Jones, of Forbes, had charge of the funeral arrangements.4
