HERPS.—August 19th, Raymond Luther, second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Herps, of Lower Portland, Hawkesbury River, dearly loved brother of Pearl, Fleda, Gladys, Guy, and Claude, Stan, Carl, Rupert (deceased).4 
Article23 August 1940 "The Windsor and Richmond Gazette", Windsor, NSW;
MANY old friends of the family heard with sincere regret of the death on Monday of Mr. Raymond Luther Herps, second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Herps, of Lower Portland. He is survived by four brothers, Guy, Claude, Stan, and Carl, and three sisters, Pearl, Fleda and Gladys, another brother Rupert, having predeceased him.5

On August 19, Mr. Raymond L. Herps, late of Hawkesbury River, St. Ives, and Gladesville, passed on to higher service. Mr. Herps had been an outstanding local preacher in the church for over 40 years. He preached his first sermon at the age of 19, in the Hawkesbury River Circuit, where his father was then a local preacher. Mr. Herps subsequently preached in the Dulwich Hill, Haberfield, Gordon, and latterly Gladesville Circuits; but failing health excluded him from active work during the last three years.
He was laid to rest in the Field of Mars on Wednesday, August 21. Rev. P. O. Davis leading a service held in Boronia Church prior to the cortege leaving for the cemetery, and also at. the graveside. Mr. Francis Wilson spoke on behalf of New South Wales Alliance, and Mr. Deall For ' Local Preachers' Association. Mr. Herps is survived by his widow, one daughter and four sons.6
