Death of Father6 March 1915 Burilda Private Hospital, Summer Hill, NSW;
It is with very great regret that we have to chronicle the death of Mr Edward Herbert, of Fairfield, Eugowra, which sad event took place on Saturday, the 6th ult., at Burilda Private Hospital, Summer Hill. The deceased gentleman attained the age of 78 years, and was perhaps one of the oldest settlers in the district, having settled on the Lachlan 42 years ago. Until recent years, Mr Herbert had devoted himself extensively to the raising of fat cattle, the quality of which were known all over the country, Fairfield being one of the best fattening properties on the river. The remains were brought to Forbes by Monday morning's mail train, and were taken on to Fairfield, the funeral leaving there at about 1 o'clock, and was very largely attended. Over 40 vehicles, besides a number on horseback, followed to the Eugowra cemetery, where the last sad rites were performed by the Rev. A. J. Gardner of Forbes. The late Mr Herbert was a keen business man, and was highly respected in the district. Much sympathy is felt for his widow and family, of which there are 14, ten sons and four daughters, all of whom are grown up.;Principal=Edward Herbert2
