Obituary* | 18 February 1929 | "The Nepean Times", Penrith, NSW; MR C. W. PURCELL Mr Charles William Purcell, of Castlereagh, died in Sydney on Saturday, 16th inst., at the age of 71 years. Deceased was born at Castlereagh and lived there all his life. In fact, he was a member of one of the oldest colonial families, as is mentioned else where in this issue. In his young days Mr Purcell was a splendid athlete, being a fast runner and a good cricketer. His wife predeceased him 13 years ago. He leaves three sons and two daughters, viz., William (Enfield), Harold (Penrith), Victor (Cowra), Mrs Mellraith (Brisbane), and Mrs Nesbitt (Hawkesbury district). There are several grandchildren. Mr Purcell is also survived by two brothers and four sisters, viz., John (Castlereagh), Austin (Sydney), Mrs Anderson (Sydney), Mrs McCarthy (Parramatta), Mrs Flannery (Sydney), and Amelia (Castlereagh). The funeral took place on Sunday, the burial being in McCarthy's Cemetery, Cranebrook. Rev. Fr. Ryan conducted the service.17 |
