Mrs. Susan Boland.
The Nyngan district lost one of its earliest pioneers last week, when Mrs. Susan Boland, of Belarbone, Nyngan, passed away. Deceased was the widow of the late James Boland, who died nearly three years ago. The early part of her life was spent in Penrith, and when she married she came with her husband to Bathurst, and shortly afterwards they took up the country now known as Belarbone, on the Bogan. That was half a century ago, and there the old lady resided until the time of her death. She was well known all over this and adjoining districts, and was universally esteemed for her general kindness and fine womanly qualities. When they came to Nyngan first there was no Nyngan. Canonbar was then the centre of this district. There was no doctor nearer than Dubbo, and just as her late husband was celebrated for his skill as a 'bush doctor,' — all cases were brought to him — so she was renowned for her skill in attending the womenfolk of the whole countryside, and many grown-ups to-day remember with gratitude the kindly offices of the good old lady who has gone to her reward. Mrs. Boland led a most active life She was a remarkably keen business woman, and looked after all her own business affairs. Four of her sons predeceased her, and she leaves one son (Mr. George Boland, of Belarbone), and one laughter (Mrs. C. Day), of Nyngan, to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, and notwithstanding that very few people knew of her death, there was a large attendance. The interment took place in the family vault in the Catholic portion of Nyngan cemetery. Rev. Father Tobin officiating at the graveside. — R.I.P.16
