Death* | 29 November 1927 | Parramatta, NSW; OBITUARY. MR. JOSEPH GEORGE SHERRINGHAM. The death occurred at Parramatta on Tuesday of Mr. Joseph George Sherringham, a popular personage in the police force, and well-known in these districts. He was the eldest son of Mr. Joseph G. Sherringham, of Cumnock, and the late Mrs. Sherringham. He was born at Cumnock 47 years ago, and was a member of the police force for 24 years, having joined when he came back from the South African war. He was stationed at Parramatta for some years, and during the last three years had been associated with the C.I.B. office. Deceased leaves a widow, also a grown-up daughter and son. His brothers are: Councillor J. Sherringham (Cumnock), Detective-Sergt. Wright Sherringham (Sydney), Sergt. William Sherringham (Redfern). Mr. Fred Sherringham (Molong) and Mr. Robert Sherringham (Peak Hill) are step-brothers. The funeral took place at Rookwood on Wednesday. About 60 policeman marched in the funeral procession, which was headed by the Police Band. Old police mates of the deceased acted as pall-bearers.3 |
