Castlereagh

Castlereagh, on the eastern bank of the Nepean River, is one of the earliest established regions in the settlement of Sydney. Land grants commenced in 1803 to free settlers, ex-convicts and the military. Christopher Frederick, a free settler who arrived on the Glatton in 1803, was granted 100 acres at Castlereagh in 1804 (see map). The Sheens family would eventually own the land granted to Mary Collet at Birds Eye Corner. Numerous Sheens relatives are buried at the Castlereagh Methodist Cemetery which was built on John Lees land (immediatley south of Christopher Frederick's land).
