MAGISTERIAL INQUIRY.-In inquiry, touching the death of a man named John Brown Hprps, was held by Mr. James Ascough, J.P., at Portland Head, on the 21st ultimo. From the evidence of John Joshua Herps, son of the deceased, it appeared that the deceased, on the morning of Monday, the 19th, at about seven o'clock, had gone down to the river, which was about forty yards distant from his late residence, for the purpose of drawing some water. After he had been absent about ten minutes witness went after him and found him lying in the river on his face as if he had fallen down and not moved. Witness immediately drew him out of the water and called for assistance, when he was brought up to the house and every available means adopted for resuscitation, but all to no purpose.
Deceased was subject to fits, and it was believed he had taken one and fallen into the water. He was thirty-two years of age.2
