MR. HECTOR THOMAS HERPS
AFTER a long illness, Mr. Hector Thomas Herps, a well-known resident of Lower Portland, passed away at that centre on Sunday morning last at the early age of 43 years. He had been a patient sufferer for more than twelve months, during portion of which time he was an inmate of Parramatta Hospital, and succumbed to an internal trouble.
Deceased was born at Lower Portland, being a son of the late John Joshua Herps. He was married in the Methodist Church there about 18 years ago to Miss Elena Douglass, of Leet's Vale, who survives, and for whom much sympathy is felt.
The late Hector Herps followed orcharding pursuits at Lower Portland until the trouble which overcame him compelled him to retire from active work. He took a keen interest in the welfare and advancement of the district in which he lived, was a prominent member of the Lower Portland Methodist Church and an enthusiastic cricketer. He was respected and esteemed, and extremely popular with all sections of the community.
The funeral took place, on Monday, the remains being laid to rest in the Methodist cemetery at Wiseman's Ferry. Rev. A. J. Simson performed the last sad rites, and Mr. Chandler was the undertaker.3
