Article* | 14 January 1943 | "The Nepean Times", Penrith, NSW; Thursday, January 14, 1943 Fell Over Cliff Mr and Mrs R. Connors, of Vaughan Street, Lidcombe, formerly of Penrith, had a rather perilous adventure in the very early hours of Sunday morning. While walking along the edge of the roadway near the Lapstone Hill Hotel turn-off, Mrs Connors walked on loose earth which gave way, and she fell some 40 ft. down a cliff. In endeavouring to save her Mr Connors lost his balance and also went down the cliff. Mr Connors was calling for help for some time before his shouts were heard, and later Constables Sharp and Smith and Nepean Ambulance officers, Messrs A. Holmes and W. A. Andrews, came to their rescue. Mrs Connors, who suffered a fractured wrist and bruises, was tied to a stretch[er] and hauled to the top by ropes. Mr Connors suffered from abrasions. A spectator, Mr W. Jones, also fell down the cliff when the earth crumbled while rescue operations were going on, but suffered little injury, though his clothing was badly torn. Mrs Connors was taken by the Ambulance to Penrith Hospital and ad mitted. She has since left the hospital.;Principal=Mary Aileen Rose Connors6 |
