| Death of Father | 13 January 1952 | Kurnell, NSW; FATHER OF 5 DROWNED AT KURNELL Edward Percival Cassidy, 45, of Edith Street, Leichhardt, married, with five children, was drowned when he was washed off the rocks on the ocean side of Kurnell yesterday. Cassidy and Alexander Pope, of Wetherill Street, Leichhardt, were fishing on the rocks a few feet above sea-level. A heavy breaker crashed on the rocks and swept Cassidy into the sea. Pope tried to grab Cassidy, but the waves carried Cassidy out. Pope signalled frantically to a launch a quarter of a mile away. The launch came in and reached Cassidy. He was unconscious when he was lifted aboard. The occupants of the launch applied artificial resuscitation as they took Cassidy to La Perouse. Efforts to revive him were continued by ambulance officers and at Prince Henry Hospital, but he did not respond.
