SMITH.—In sad but loving memory of my dear sister, Elizabeth Ann Smith, who departed this life 27th May, 1907, aged 78 years.
We saw her suffering day by day,
It caused us bitter grief
To see her slowly pine away,
And could not give relief.
Not dead to us, we love her dear,
Not lost, but gone before,
She lives with us in memory still,
And will for evermore.
Inserted by her loving sister, Mrs. James Gill, Ulmarra.    ;Principal=Elizabeth Harps6

OBITUARY
MR. P. J. SMITH.
The death occurred about one o'clock on Sunday morning of Mr. Frederick John Smith, of Kemp street, Grafton, aged 63 years. The deceased, who was well-known in the district, was born at Alumny Creek, being a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. He had lived on the Clarence all his life, being engaged in dairying and mixed farming , at Alumny Creek until about five and a half years ago when he retired and came to reside in Grafton, the farm being carried on by his son, Mr. M. L. Smith.
The late Mr. Smith was a man of a quiet and retiring disposition, but when he took up his residence opposite the bowling green in Kemp street he became interested in the game. From being a spectator, he became a player himself and got a great deal of enjoyment out of it so long as his health permitted. His unassuming but friendly nature made him a much respected member of the club.
Deceased was also a member of the Star of the East Lodge, M.U.I.O.O.F., for about 28 years.
About three years ago his health began to fail, and on Thursday last his condition was such that he was removed to a private hospital, where he died as stated.
The late Mr. Smith married Miss Clara Frances Wood, of Alumny Creek, who survives him, together with four sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs. Cecil Ernest (Bacon street, Grafton), Murven Lester (Alumny Creek), Victor Leslie (Police Station, Galston, via Hornsby), and Raymond Frederick (Oliver street, Grafton), Mrs. C. V. Symonds (Waratah) and Mrs. L. G. Cousemacker (Ulmarra) are daughters. The late Mrs. E. J. Bender was also a daughter. There are also seventeen grandchildren. Mr. Thomas Smith, of Hoof street, Grafton, is a brother, of the deceased, and surviving sisters are: Mrs. J. Ryder (Lismore), Mrs. L. Findlay (Chatswood), Mrs. Findlay (Perth, W. A.), Mrs. W. Boyle (Maclean) and Mrs. D. Coyle (Sydney).
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon in the Church of England portion of the Grafton cemetery. Canon Ware conducted the service, and the Oddfellows’ burial service was read by Bro. H. Crisford, Past District Master. There was a large attendance, including many members of the Oddfellows' Lodge and the Grafton Bowling Club.8
