Wedding Bells
SHEENS—BARNES
St. Stephen's Church, Penrith, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on May 8, when Gwen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. C. Barnes, of Castlereagh, was married to James, eldest son of Mr J. Sheens and the late Mrs Sheens, of Castlereagh. Rev. R. A. Murray, of Emu Plains, officiated.
The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, wearing a charming gown of angel skin lace over taffeta and a three-tiered veil of cut tulle. She carried a bouquet of tube roses and white chrysanthemums. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Marion Barnes, who looked very attractive in rose pink georgette over taffeta, with a topknot of pink roses and tulle veil. Her bouquet was of pink roses and mauve Canterbury bells. The flower girl, Stella Sheens, sister of the bridegroom, was very sweet in green georgette over taffeta, with a halo of green tulle and pink roses. She carried a basket of pink and mauve flowers and was accompanied up the aisle by Master Ken Barnes, brother of the bride.
Mr Jack Hollier assisted the bride groom as best man. The duties of usher were ably carried out by Mr Alan Barnes, brother of the bride. During the signing of the register Mr J. Water, cousin of the bride, sang Schubert's "Serenade."
Rev. R. A. Murray presided at the reception, held in Mrs Elston's rooms, High Street, where about 50 guests were received by the bride's mother, in a smart blue frock with navy accessories and a spray of frangipani and pink roses. She was assisted by the bridegroom's grandmother, Mrs C. Ahmelman, wearing a frock of purple with floral tonings and a black tailored coat. The wedding cake was made by the great aunt of the bride, Miss. F. Greenham.
After the usual toasts were honoured, the happy couple left for Narrabeen Lakes, the bride wearing a royal blue and grey ensemble with matching accessories. They were the recipients of several congratulatory telegrams and gifts, including numerous cheques.;Principal=Gwen Barnes7
