Article* | 10 April 1947 | "The Nepean Times", Penrith, NSW; Fought a Snake Mr. Charlie Werner won't have the contention of some uninformed people that a snake will travel a mile, or some considerable distance, to avoid an encounter with a human. He had experience to the contrary on a recent morning. As is known, Mr. Werner is a greyhound enthusiast, and on that occasion was, with Mr. Allan Sheens, working on the dog track at Jamisontown. They were stacking iron, when a 5ft. black snake came from underneath a sheet and fastened onto Mr. Werner's leg near the ankle. Fortunately, he was so attired at the time that that part of the limb was well padded and he was not bitten, though the reptile viciously hung on till dislodged by some iron. Then it was promptly despatched.8 |
