Probate | 11 July 1804 | London, England; In the Name of God Amen I John Newman of Saint Catherines Street in the precinct of Saint Catherine in the County of Middlesex Cabinet Maker being weak of body but of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding do make and publish this as and for my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say. First I direct and appoint that my Body be decently interred in the family Vault in Flemings Church yard in the said precinct of Saint Catherine (at the Discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and that all my just Debts and the Expenses of my Funeral and the costs of proving this my will be in the first place fully paid and Satisfied. And I give to my Daughter Harriott Purcell the wife of John Purcell the Sum of Twenty five pounds per annum during her natural Life and in case of the Death of my said Daughter before my son John Newman then I direct and appoint the said annuity of twenty five pounds per annum to be paid to my said Son John Newman during the term of his natural Life and after his Death unto his lawful Issue and in Default thereof unto the lawful Issue of my said Daughter Harriott Purcell I also give unto my said Daughter Harriott Purcell the Lease of a house in Poland Street Oxford Street which is now in the Occupation of her my said Daughter and I hereby release to my Son in Law the said John Purcell all Debt Sum and Sums of Money that he may owe me up to the Date of this my Will I give unto Mary Newman (the widow of my late Brother Thomas Newman) of Woolwich in the County of Kent the Sum of four pounds per Annum during her Life and also an equal Moiety or half share of all my late Wifes cotton and Linen wearing apparel I give unto Jemima Roberts the Sum of Thirty pounds and also the other Moiety or half share of all my said late Wifes cotton and Linen wearing apparel I give unto Fanny Soper the wife of Thomas Soper of Chatham in the County of Kent the Sum of thirty pounds and a mourning Ring I give unto my Grandson John Purcell the Sum of Twenty pounds to be appropriated as an apprentice fee and I direct that the Interest be applied towards his Maintenance and Education I give unto my Nephew William Newman the Sum of five pounds for Mourning I give unto my porter James Carruthers and Robert Flinders Cabinet maker all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them share and share alike and as to* of my concerns in Shipping as will be sufficient to secure the before mentioned Annuities I give devise and bequeath the same unto Charles Hardiss of Saint Georges Road in the Parish of Saint George in the East in the County of Middlesex Merchant and James Carter of Barbican in the Parish of Saint Giles Cripplegate in the said County of Middlesex Brandy Merchant upon Trust that they or the Survivor of them or the Executors or Admors of such Survivor do and shall within Six months after my decease sell and dispose of the Same and out of the Monies arising by Such Sale to lay out and invest the same in the public finds or other Government Securities in their names And as to my household Goods furniture Stock in Trade plate and all and singular my Estate and Effects of what nature or kind soever that I may die possessed of or entitled unto or otherwise I give devise and bequeath unto the Said Charles Hardiss and James Carter upon Trust until my said Son John Newman shall attain the age of twenty one years and in case he shall die before he shall attain such age and without lawful Issue then I give and bequeath the same to Charles Harris and James Carter or the Survivor of them or the Executors or Admors of Such Survivor upon Trust to Sell and dispose thereof by public auction or otherwise for the most and best price that can be got for the same and the monies arising therefrom by such sale to lay out and invest in some or one of the public funds of other Government securities and the Interest thereof shall be paid to my said daughter Harrott Purcell during her natural Life and in case of her death without Issue then I give and bequeath the same unto my next Heir And I do hereby constitute nominate and appoint the aforesaid Charles Hardiss and James Carter Executors of this my last Will and Testament to whom I also give the Sum of Twenty Pounds and a mourning Ring each as a Recompence for their trouble and my will further is that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Trustees to deduct and reimburse to themselves respectively all such costs and charges as they shall necessarily sustain or be put unto in the Execution of this my Will or the trusts herby in them I further give and bequeath to my friend Mrs Elizabeth Woogan of Prescott Street the Sum of five Pounds for Mourning and a Ring Wils Haw Harrison James Binfield I John Newman of Saint Catherines Street in the precinct of Saint Catherine in the County of Middlesex do this twenty third day of June 1804 make and publish this Codicil to my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say I give unto Phoebe Braham? the Sum of five Pounds and unto Mary May of Chelsea Widow the sum of Twelve Pounds and a Ring and unto Thomas Austen the Sum of Ten Pounds and lastly it is my Present Codicil be annexed to and made part of my last Will and Testament to all Intents and Purposes In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third of June one thousand Eight hundred and four Jon. Newman Signed sealed published and declared by the abovenamed John Newman as a Codicil to be annexed to his last Will and Testament in the presence of Wils Haws Harrison James Binfield 10th July 1804 This Will was proved at London with two Codicils on the Eleventh Day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and four before the worshipful Samuel Pearce Parson Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Charles Hardiss and James Carter the Executors named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased having been sworn duly to administer10 |
