Obituary* | 17 June 1909 | "The Freeman's Jounal", Sydney, NSW; MRS. KENNEDY. Thursday morning, 3rd inst., witnessed the death of one of the oldest residents of the Goulburn district, in the person of Mrs. Kennedy, of Norwood. The deceased, who had attained the ripe age of 81 years, came to the State in the fifties, and went to reside with her aunt, Mrs. Shea, of Lake George. Some time afterwards she was married to Mr. John Kennedy, who had taken up property at Norwood. Here she resided till the time of her death. She was a native of Thurles, Co.. Tipperary, Ireland, and it is not saying too much that the Green Isle never sent forth a daughter whose life reflected the purity of the race more than deceased. Her example has been followed by her children, of whom she leaves four sons, Patrick (Goulburn), Philip (Kingsdale), John (Norwood), and Denis, of Bathurst (Public school teacher); three daughters, Mrs H. W. O'Connell, of Burwood; and Misses Annie and Margaret, who lived with their mother. One daughter (Mrs. Kelly) died about 13 years ago. Her husband predeceased her by 30 years. She had a very large funeral, and was buried in Kenmore cemetery, the Rev. Father Reidy officiating at the grave. —R.I.P.11 |
